C-Section and Abdominal Scar Release
Heal your belly scar and reconnect with your body.
We are scar specialists, helping you to regain your confidence, take control of your healing journey, and bring love back to your belly.
Have you experienced pain, discomfort, pulling, itching, decreased mobility, or dysfunctional breath associated with your abdominal scar? Perhaps you want to improve the appearance of your scar and reduce the visible ‘shelf’ on your abdomen or help with redness?
This treatment uses hands-on therapies including massage, cupping, gua-sha, dry needling and movement techniques to help release scar tissue and improve pain and functionality of your scar. We understand deeply the emotional connection and trauma that you may hold with your scar, and so this treatment supports and guides you back to a place of love for the body that birthed your baby.

-
During our Initial Appointment, together we sit down with a cup of herbal tea and talk through your belly birth or abdominal surgery, chatting in depth about your history and current concerns. We talk about both the physical reasons for you seeking treatment, along with the emotional ones too.
-
Assessing your scar and your belly is done in a few ways. First, we take a series of ‘before photos’. These are to help us keep track of your journey through appointments and help us to see any changes in appearance during your treatment.
We then assess your posture and your scar in a standing position, followed by looking at and touching your scar lying down.
A full breath assessment is then completed, to look at where your breath is being directed in your abdomen, and how functional your breath is. Breath plays a key role in the management of scar tissue.
-
Treatment involves a hands-on approach with a combination of techniques, guided fully by you. We work to release muscles around the ribcage, diaphragm and upper abdomen, middle and lower abdomen, and directly through your scar.
We can incorporate the use of gua-sha, dry needling and cupping therapies to help loosen and increase mobility of scar tissue.
Following treatment, we reassess and capture some ‘after photos’. These photos stay just with us for our records and aren’t shared without your consent.
-
Following your treatment in clinic, we also aim to guide you in your recovery at home. Teaching you self release and massage techniques, showing you breathing and strengthening exercises, and providing product recommendations for scar healing, we are with you every step of the way.

FAQ’s
-
Treatment can begin typically from 8 weeks post birth or abdominal surgery. It is important that we wait until the scar is fully healed, with no scabbing present and stitches are dissolved.
It is also really important that you feel like the scar is ready to be touched. If you’re not sure if you’re ready, please reach out to us and we can provide you with some tips and techniques you can do prior to receiving treatment.
-
Typically, all clinical scar release journeys begin with three appointments - one 90-minute Initial Appointment, and two 60-minute Return Appointments. Each of these are spaced 2-3 weeks apart from each other. Following the last of your three sessions, we assess your progress and make further appointments as needed. It is important to note that some women may require multiple sessions to achieve and maintain the best results.
-
Self massage is just one of the many components and tools we recommend in your scar healing journey. When you come in for clinical scar release, we are looking at the body as a whole, treating not only the scar itself, but releasing surrounding muscles and rehabilitating your breath.
-
Whilst you might feel like your scar has healed well and you are not experiencing too many symptoms (which is incredible), belly births and abdominal surgeries alike have the ability to create excess scar tissue, impacting not only the scar, but other areas of the body. We take a holistic approach to consider, but also see past the scar to address other parts of the body.
-
We definitely encourage having treatment after your first belly birth prior to having another baby, as this can help improve the mobility of the tissue in your abdomen, strengthen your abdominal muscles, and assist with your posture - all important things for your next pregnancy.
-
Unfortunately, scar release is contraindicated in pregnancy. However, please still reach out to us as we can recommend some breath work techniques and gentle stretches that can help during your pregnancy, and then we’d love to see you after the birth of your baby.
-
Common, most certainly, but normal, no. This is a really good sign that you will benefit from clinical scar release work.
-
Absolutely you can! This treatment is for women with scars at all stages of healing. Whether your scar is 8 weeks old or 18 years old, we can achieve brilliant results.
