Sore, fatigued and tight muscles? Perhaps you have that persistent tension in your neck and shoulders from hours of desk work? Remedial massage is perfect for relieving tension and tightness, whilst also working to relax the nervous system, helping to reduce stress and anxiety.

Myotherapy

Myotherapy is a holistic treatment approach that involves the assessment, treatment and management of musculoskeletal pain and conditions. It uses a wide range of treatment techniques, such as deep tissue massage, joint mobilisation, cupping, dry needling, muscle energy techniques (MET’s), and exercise prescription. The aim of Myotherapy is to determine the root cause of your pain, and in addition to hand’s on treatment, considers lifestyle modification, functional goals and mental wellbeing.

C-Section and Abdominal Scar Release

Have you experienced pain, discomfort, pulling, itching, decreased mobility, or dysfunctional breath associated with your abdominal scar? Perhaps you want to improve the appearance of your scar and reduce the visible ‘shelf’ on your abdomen or help with redness? This treatment uses hands-on therapies including massage, cupping, gua-sha, dry needling and movement techniques to help release scar tissue and improve pain and functionality of your scar. We also address the emotional connection and trauma that you may hold with your scar.

Exercise Prescription and Rehabilitation

In addition to any of your Myotherapy and massage treatments, you may be prescribed some exercises or stretches to aid in your recovery or management. Jessica can advise appropriate stretches to help relieve tension and improve range of motion, as well as basic strength programs to help with certain injuries and conditions. She is also able to provide pregnancy-safe exercise recommendations and modifications.

What to Expect at Your Appointment and FAQ’s

What do I need to bring?

Please bring along any referral letters or imaging reports you may have. You may like to write down any medications that you are currently taking to bring with you. You might also like to bring along a bottle of water for after your treatment. If you suffer from reflux or heartburn and are taking medication to help, bring these along too, as sometimes lying face-down or side-lying whilst pregnant can bring on these symptoms.

What happens in my first appointment?

During your first appointment, we will run through your medical history and take some notes on your current pain complaints and treatment goals. We will also go through a movement assessment to determine the cause of your pain and help to create a plan for our treatment together. During your treatment, you will remove clothing items necessary for me to access the body area we are working on. Please be assured that you will never have to remove clothing or receive treatment on areas you feel uncomfortable with. At the conclusion of your appointment, we will discuss your treatment plan and schedule your next appointment as needed.

Can I claim appointments through Private Health Insurance?

You absolutely can! As long as you have Myotherapy and Remedial Massage included in your Private Health Insurance extras coverage, you can claim your rebate. All payments are required on the day of your appointment and are taken in full. You will then receive an itemised invoice for you to easily claim with your insurance company.

What is the difference between Myotherapy and Massage?

That is an excellent question! Remedial Massage involves soft and deep tissue massage techniques to reduce tension and tightness, improve blood circulation and promote relaxation. Myotherapy is a modality that uses Remedial Massage as a treatment tool, in addition to many other treatment techniques, to address the presenting symptoms and target the underlying cause. Clinical Myotherapists, like Jessica, have undertaken a three year Bachelor of Health Science (Clinical Myotherapy) Degree, to fully equip them with the assessment and treatment techniques necessary to achieve long lasting results.

Is pregnancy massage safe?

Pregnancy massage is safe during all stages of pregnancy. Most women like to wait until after their first trimester to have treatment, since this is when nausea, discomfort and fatigue are the highest, and typically feel more comfortable once these symptoms have decreased or subsided. Jessica will go through a pre-treatment questionnaire to ensure that pregnancy massage is suitable for you.
